Half way through the racing season!
As Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship enters the midway point of the 2017 Supercross season Spy’s Cole Seely is sitting in 4th place with 153 points after round 9 in Toronto, 43 points back from points leader Ryan Dungey (196 points).
Through 9 rounds Cole has only had 3 finishes outside the top 5; 6th at Anaheim 1, 6th at Atlanta and most recently a 6th at Toronto. At round 3, Anaheim 2, Cole secured his first podium of the season a solid 3rd place on the night. His average finish through the first 9 rounds is 4.7 with his best finish coming in round 6 at Arlington where he secured 2nd that night behind Marvin Musquin.
We interviewed Cole before the season started and here is what he had to say about going into the 2017 Supercross season:
“That’s the main thing, I want more wins, I want more podiums, I want to do good. I’ve got everything in my corner to do as best as I can. Really, nothing holding me back, so I think it’s going to be a good year.” – Cole Seely
Cole’s results from the first 9 rounds are as follows:
We are stoked to see Cole running up in the top 5 almost every weekend.
We believe he is more than capable of getting at least one race win this season. The fact that he has been consistent just goes to show that he has put in the work in the off-season to get to this point. After getting the holeshot in Minneapolis during the main event Cole lost his front end in a turn and fell back to 10th place. He was able to bounce back to a 5th place finish that night after going down on lap one. Had he not gone down it would’ve been awesome to see where he could’ve ended the night. It’s more than possible that he could have come away with his first race win of the season.
Comparing the first 9 rounds of 2017 to 2016:
When you compare Cole’s 2017 results to his 2016 results you’ll notice a few things.
- We see the range of finish positions in his races last year were much greater showing less consistency. One thing to note is that the race schedule is different than the previous year.
- Overall Cole is having a better year as he currently holds 4th overall (153 pts.), 30 points ahead of 5th place Jason Anderson (123 pts.) and just 4 points behind 3rd place Marvin Musquin (157 pts.).
- Last year Cole had a strong start to the season with two podium finishes to start the season. He had 5 races outside the top 5 last year at this point which is not the case this season. This year he started a little slower but built momentum getting on the box at round 3 with a third and then round 6 with a second.
- Compared to last year Cole only has 3 finishes outside the top 5 (three 6th places) which has kept him in the top 5 all year.
With some solid finishes in the books this season we look forward to seeing what Cole can do as he enters the back half of the season. We hope to see him bounce back from two consecutive 6th place finishes to get back on the box and ultimately get his first win of the season!
From everyone here at Spy, we want to wish Cole the best for the remainder of the season with our full support! And be sure to check out his clean, new signature CS/14 goggle which is his first with SPY!
