It was only a matter of time.

John John Florence has had an incredible last 12 months. He dropped View from a Blue Moon, the highest grossing surf movie of all time in December. In February he won the Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay in historically giant conditions. And just to cap things off, he claimed his first World Title In October at the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal.

John John Florence has had world’s attention since surfing Pipeline at the ripe age of six, but in the past few years he’s been unofficially considered the best surfer in the world. And now he has the World Title to confirm the sentiment of the surf world.

Working with a guy like John is also a pleasure.  He’s laid back and real, which can be something hard to find in a world so overtaken by appearances and social media popularity. It all comes organically to John. It’s no secret he has always excelled at free surfing, but it has been his rapid growth in contest surfing that has been turning heads recently. Surfing will never be a sport defined by contest wins and titles, but you can’t help but celebrate when someone as deserving as John gets one.

Just like we support John, he has had our backs too. John John and his family have been a part of our team here at SPY for over a decade, since his little grom days. He currently has two signature frames with SPY. The Fold is a foldable sunglass perfect for space saving when traveling. His most recent sunglass is the Atlas. Both inspired by his love for traveling and sailing.

From everyone at the SPY family, we want to wish John a huge congrats on his first—and most certainly not last—World Title. And enjoy the victory lap in Hawaii this winter!
